Two Rabbis and a Dozen Dinosaurs; A Jewish Wedding at the ROM – Royal Ontario Museum.
I was thrilled when Stephanie and Jessie, who both happen to be Rabbis, contacted me about shooting their wedding at the ROM. After all, it’s not often that you have a chance to shoot a wedding of two Rabbis. Let alone capturing such memories in a place which holds a record of so many human and nature’s achievements throughout the ages.
A third huge plus which I quickly realized was what great people Stephanie and Jessie both are. Their kindness, joy and curiosity about life are contagious. They were also such troopers on the wedding day allowing me to shoot their wedding images throughout the ROM building.
Stephanie and Jessie chose the ROM for their wedding because they are both interested in natural and human history. They wanted to be surrounded by what inspires them. They also wanted to be able to revisit the ROM with their kids to share this great public location with them while looking back at some of the great moments created there on their special day. How amazing is that!
Preperation is always key.
After receiving a list of possible exhibit backgrounds which Stephanie and Jessie liked, I scouted the ROM venue in full detail. I reviewed as possible shooting locations and historical exhibit displays, which are plentiful at the ROM. I love the architectural and lighting elements of the museum. Also their modern main staircase or the Michael Chang Crystal designed by the architect Daniel Libeskind. Interestingly enough, architect Daniel Libeskind sketched the initial concept of the crystal addition on paper napkins while attending a family wedding at the ROM! This just proves that weddings at the ROM are inspirational, much like the wedding of Stephanie and Jessie!
Spending time with Stephanie, Jessie and their family and friends surrounded by, history, art and dinosaurs was a special, unique and inspirational treat for me which I will not quickly forget.
I’m so happy that I captured so many great human moments and emotions which like the past preserved at the ROM museum can be viewed and cherished for generations.
