It took me six full days to drive from Toronto to Calgary. It was a first week of April when I left for my Love Across Canada road trip to meet and capture the love, happiness, and dreams of 18 couples on my way.
When I got to Calgary on Saturday evening it was snowing as hell! It started snowing about 2 hours before Calgary and I was a little bit confused. Really, snow in April? When I was getting closer to the city the snow got even worse. The traffic was super slow and I was really shocked but at the same focused. I drove more than 700 kilometres that day and I was getting really tired. When I got to Calgary there was at least 10 cm of snow.
I stayed at my friendplace for the next few days. Thank you Konrad and Tina for your warm hospitality and your place to stay at during my trip!I got to their place around 10PM and I knew that I needed to wake up at 6AM the next day and drive for my first Love Across Canada session. I was super tired but excited at the same time. I couldn’t wait to see the Rockies and meet Ewa and Jamie.
The photo session was scheduled for 8AM at the Johnston Canyon in Alberta just half an hour drive from Banff. I got a little bit lost on my way from Calgary and unfortunately, I was late for my first session. Yes, I’m so talented that I can get lost with a Google map!
Ewa and Jamie where already there. When they saw me, they welcomed me with big smiles and this is how we started our hike in the canyon. The weather that day was really nice about -5C, a lot of snow on the ground and some sun peeking through the trees.
During my trip from Toronto to Calgary, I had enough time to come up with 8 questions which I asked each couple I photographed. I knew that the questions will be related to them and to Canada. Some of them are simple, some of them are fun and some are more serious.
Ewa and Jamie are together for almost five years. They live in Calgary, Alberta with their two kids. They love to travel and explore new places. On July 21, 2018 they start their new adventure as a husband and wife. Their wedding will take place in Tofino on Vancouver Island, in one of the most beautiful places in Canada.
This is how Ewa and Jamie answered the questions while we were walking in the canyon.
1. What is your dream and what is your biggest dream together?
Ewa: I would love to live with the whole family by the ocean and enjoy our life as much as we can. Life is not only about work and living in the city. We love nature and want to live close to the nature.
Jamie: I would like to take a year off and travel around with my family. Ewa and I are on the same page. We want to be a part of a smaller community, live by the ocean.
As a couple we have the same dream. Explore the world, be connected with the nature and live our lives.
2. If you could go in Canada anywhere right now without any limitations of money and time, where would you go and why?
Ewa: I think that would be far north where we haven’t been yet and meeting people who live there and getting know their culture, see all the wild animals and the nature around there. We would go as far as we could drive and where there is not so many people.
Jamie: I would go to Queen Charlotte Islands to camp and explore the rain forest and see what it has to offer.
3. What is the best thing about you Ewa which Jamie brings out in you?
Ewa: We don’t feel limited. When we have some ideas, we try to do them and I think because of that I’m totally open about things. Thinking about every day as an adventure.
Jamie what is the best thing about you which Ewa brings out in you?
Jamie: She is always supportive about my crazy ideas and she doesn’t hold me back from doing anything
4. What inspires you the most about Canada?
Ewa: I’m inspired by the nature, the space. The places where we can go and don’t see people.
Jamie: The variety of things which you can do. We have the mountains, the ocean, the prairies, lakes and the endless opportunities.
5. What is the most difficult part of your relationship?
Jamie: I’m pretty laid back and like to go with the flow and Ewa likes to plan more.
Ewa: Yes, I’m taking all the stress in the family.
6. What do you love the most about Jamie?
Ewa: He is adventures. I love his crazy ideas and loves being outdoors.
Jamie: I love that she is on board with my ideas and that she is always ready to pack the snacks! She keeps the circus in check.
7. How would you describe Canada in only two words?
Ewa: Wild, open.
Jamie: Endless, adventures.
8. What wakes you up from the bed every day?
Ewa: Smile of our kids, their laugh and wondering what Jamie is going to come up with.
Jamie: Life is too short there is a lot of things to explore!
