Lake Minnewanka, Banff, Rockies. When I was going for my Love Across Canada I was excited about three things: couples who I would meet on my way, nature and the drive across the country. I wanted to know how it was going to be to drive so many kilometres on my own. Feel the vastness of Canada, get tired and be excited about another place to see. I photographed Ashley and Adam on my way back from Tofino. I left Kelowna early in the morning and my goal was to get to Lake Minnewanka for the afternoon. It was my second session there. My first session at Lake Minnewanka was with Patricia and Barney who I photographed in the first week of my trip. It was almost a week’s break between the sessions but the snow was still on the ground! Yep, snow at the end of April!
Ashley and Adam brought their two cute dogs for the session: Gus and Uvo. If you know me, you know how much I love to do the sessions with the dogs!
Ashley and Adam live in Calgary and they love the outdoors! They spent a lot of time hiking in the mountains with their dogs. It was great to know them and get them better. Talk about their dreams, goals and plans for the future. This is how they answered the questions.
What is your dream and what is your biggest dream together?
Ashley: I have always been very driven and very ambitious so for me it’s to be happy and be successful in my career. No matter where I am or where I want to go, I just want to enjoy the path. For us together, always consistently working on our marriage and relationship.
Adam: I would like to raise a big family. That’s the next step for us and I would like to find a good life-work balance.
If you could go anywhere in Canada right now without any limitations of money and time, where would you go and why?
Adam: I think, I would go to Newfoundland because I have never been there. It’s as far from us as we can get so I would like to go there one day.
Ashley: Sticking with the East Coast I would like to go to Montreal. I have heard amazing things about the city. It’s great in terms of food, culture and language. It’s also a place, I don’t know a ton about and I would like to learn more.
What is the best thing about you Ashley which Adam brings out in you?
Ashley: He brought out in me the ability to open up and talk about problems when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Before Adam, I was a close person.
What is the best thing about you Adam which Ashley brings out in you?
Adam: Being more responsible. Being more a man than a boy. I want to do a good job for her.
What inspires you the most about Canada?
Adam: I love that Canada is multicultural. I like that Canadians are nice, accepting and peacekeepers. I’m proud to be Canadian.
Ashley: The biggest part is culture. My parents came here as immigrants and found Canada as a very accepting place. I was lucky enough to always feel that way when I was growing up. Overall the different aspects of culture and the opportunity. I feel like in Canada there is an opportunity to see a lot of things, meet a lot of different people and never feel like you can be a sheltered person.
If you could describe Canada in two single words what words would you use?
Ashley: opportunistic, open-minded
Adam: free, home.
What is of what was the most difficult part of your relationship?
Ashley: For me taking the big steps: moving in together, buying a house. Always the big transitions are kind of difficult.
Adam: The expectations of other people are what we should or shouldn’t do. We had a very good idea of what we wanted for ourselves we had different timelines than other people and we did things differently than other people thought we should do. We always stay true to what we want to do and it’s easy to do it together but the external pressures are the toughest part.
Ashley, what do you love the most about Adam?
Adam, what do you love the most about Ashley?
From the first day when we met, I always felt like I met true her. How happy she was and carefree and I still love this the most about her.
What wakes you up from the bed every day?
Ashley: For me, it’s continuing to work hard and share the happiness with people who I love and making those memories together.
Adam: I’m always driven to be my best self and every day is a step to it.
Thank you Ashley and Adam for a great time and for being a part of my Love Across Canada Photography Adventure!
